My approach this time started with the splash, very similar and very familiar, but not safe. I love the free flowing paint and the way it falls - which is my reason for getting involved with the splash in the first place. Since I have succumbed and accepted the fact that I was going to paint figuratively again, I decided to really blast the canvas and paint this huge grotesque form that grew out of the splash which was to add to the impact. Of course, once involved in executing one's ideas things just happen and I let myself go. I don't believe in restricting or limiting myself to one idea beause of an initial instinctive urge. Because the urge changes and the need changes from one day to the next, There's no need to restrict oneself in such a manner. (written in 1971)
